Using Knowledge Databases

To integrate specific knowledge from various sources into Alan, you can use knowledge databases in your chats.

For tips on chatting with knowledge databases, check out our Prompting Guide for knowledge databases.

Selecting Knowledge Databases

In new or existing chats, you can click on "Knowledge Databases" above the chat input bar. Here, you find an overview of all knowledge databases available to you. This includes all knowledge databases that you have created yourself or that have been shared with you.

When you select one or more knowledge databases, Alan can access the contained sources in this chat and use this knowledge in its responses.

The selected knowledge databases can be adjusted at any time during the chat, allowing you to specifically control which information Alan can access for which answers.

Source References

The sources used by Alan to generate an answer can be found at the end of each answer.

If you click on a source reference in a generated answer, you see more details about the source and can view the specific excerpt of the source that Alan is referring to.

Status of a Knowledge Database

In the overview of available knowledge databases, you find information on who created the knowledge database and its current status.

Knowledge databases with the status indexed are fully usable.

If errors occurred while indexing or the indexing of the knowledge database is not yet complete, you can use the knowledge database in your chats, but not all the contained information will be available to Alan.
